#58: NAB Grand Final 2009
The audio levels have been worked on and sound much better this week… no screeching in the theme song and Molly not sounding like Darth Vader!
The boys start the week talking about the creeping saturation of Dream Team into official AFL media, with afl.com.au including DT snippets in most stories, and part-AFL-owned radio station SEN going overboard on the DT spruiking, especially in interviews with coaches and players. m0nty also brings up the subject of Dream Team betting, and the fact that the Premium Dream Team competition had not been opened at the time of recording the show. Molly and m0nty talk over the differences between salary cap competitions where everyone can have the same players like AFL Dream and Super Coach, and private draft leagues like PDT, Ultimate Footy and FanFooty’s own leagues.
Then it’s onto actual footy news, and we have to start with Jack Grimes and his back injury, which has suddenly given new fantasy importance to Demon teammates Kyle Cheney and Simon Buckley. Grimes’ injury puts a lot of structures into disarray, which means we need to look at back rookies: Stephen Hill, Nick Suban, Greg Broughton, Jared Petrenko, Nathan Grima, Michael Hurley and Zac Dawson are all combed over for selection consistency and point scoring abilities.
Rather than talking about the NAB Cup grand final, m0nty wants to discuss underappreciated players that you wouldn’t be hearing if you listened to the mainstream sources about fantasy football. Simon Goodwin, David Mackay, Tom Collier, Marc Murphy, Shane O’Bree, Hayden Skipworth, Matthew DeBoer, Simon Hogan, David Johnson, David Wojcinski and Paul Johnson are all canvassed and Molly gives his opinions on each player.
Following on from his starring NAB Challenge game on Friday, the boys pump up Lance Franklin in Hawk Talk, as well as Luke Hodge and Brendan Whitecross. To round out the show, they mull over Jack Ziebell, Danyle Pearce, Ben Cousins, Farren Ray, Jarryn Geary, Darren Jolly, Mark Nicoski and Tim Callan.

Phillip "Molly" Malone is one of the most prolific Web pundits on Aussie Rules footy with his blog Mollyzine and podcast Molly's Monday Machination. He's an engineer and a Hawk fan, and you'll see his name everywhere.

Great stuff guys, can’t believe there is less than a week left. Agree Molly, Kade far better value then Marc i think. Mark is 431k surely you would look at someone like Kane Cornes at 437k as a proven durable premium at that price?
Any update on Skipworths ankle? read in freako is in doubt for round 1.

Thanks for the kind words Chad. Kane was down a bit last year and I am still up in the air on if that will be the norm going forward or if it was just a bad part of the last year for the team and him (bad being a relative term).
Haven’t gone out to fully research Skipworths injury yet. Will have more on that for next weeks show.

Just wanted to say thanks for the episode molly and m0nty, unfortunately I couldn’t make it live, but will aim to do so next podcast. As a Hawks supporter I always love the segment you do on the Hawks, so keep that up if there isn’t too much banter from the Geelong supporters ;D. Just in case you guys didn’t know, it appears Dew did his hammy again at training, so it will be interesting to see who might replace him if he doesn’t get up.
Also molly I notice that you post the Coaches Box on the BF DT thread, perhaps you should also post it on the BF SC thread as well, you’d probably get an even bigger audience.
Cheers and keep up the good work,
The 30 Spartans

Hey thanks Spartans,
I thought of doing that but didn’t want to out wear my welcome (posting on the SC board of BF).
If anyone is reading this, don’t hesitate to spread the word of the podcast and the live show (unless of course you are finding this useful and don’t want your friends getting the same info. Personally I think you would be better off telling all your friends and having them use our bad tips!)
