CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #61: Post Round 1, 2009
It has been a pretty good starting week all round for fantasy Australian football, apart from the lack of live Super Coach scoring. Oh, and a couple of injuries…
Before m0nty and Molly talk about the players, they discuss the big "off-field" news of the week, including the withdrawal of live Super Coach scoring from the SC Web site and from any site at all, even the Super Coach site itself, plus the difference in registrations between Dream Team and Super Coach.
Inevitably, we have to talk about what to do with the injured Andrew Raines and Liam Anthony. First, m0nty asks Molly about whether to burn two trades, one or none this week in the search for a more stable structure. The boys go through Raines’ replacements in order of DT price: Jarryn Geary, Josh Head, Scott Clouston, Matt Spangher, Tom Collier, Michael Hurley, Ryan Schoenmakers, Matthew Suckling, Kyle Cheney, Jared Petrenko, Alex Rance, Stephen Hill, Nick Suban, Greg Broughton and Zac Dawson are all covered.
Then it’s onto alternatives to Anthony (assuming you’ve already got Daniel Rich and Mitch Robinson), with Andy Otten, Jack Ziebell, Patrick Dangerfield, Jamie Bennell, Myke Cook, Brendan Whitecross and Neville Jetta all canvassed.
Onto the regular round review, and first cab off the rank is Jordan McMahon, whose spot in the Tigers team is under intense media scrutiny. Shane O’Bree and Bernie Vince got huge scores in the Saturday arvo game, which is worthy of inspection. Josh Drummond got tagged by the Eagles, while Sam Butler and Brent Reilly disappointed a lot of fantasy coaches. Nick Riewoldt started his season very poorly, while Ricky Petterd and Leigh Harding had much better beginnings. Nathan Krakouer had big wraps on him in preseason with mixed results, while Sam Gilbert, Jason Winderlich and Paul Duffield are all mid-pricers with interesting round 1 scores.
To finish up the hour-long show, the boys discuss three additions to the ranks of fantasy media: DT Ruined My Life, Footy Tragic and Your SuperCoach Coach.

Great Stuff guys. I of course have both Raines and Anthony like everyone, and i am certainly not spending 2 trades. If i can get Petrenko or Broughton to cover for raines i think i will keep raines.
Anthony is a harder one, I guess at the moment there isn’t any other options that I see as a lock. Have Rich and Robinson already, Otten and Dangerfield i think are questionable 22 with Scott Thompson,Johncock and Symes now available. I think Zaharakis will play this week so i might see how he goes the next couple of weeks and see. I guess anthony can come back in to a downgrade from say robinson.

Yep, all good points Chad. We are all worried about having the same team but I the handling of these things will be where the real separation is seen. I am going to shelve the extra cash from downgrading Raines and then also hope to get a quicker out on Cheney in DT and Hurley in SC then those that might miss those boats because they kept a non-performing Raines. The ongoing injury concern might also be an issue, although at his price as long as he plays you would think he will make money

You guys do a great job discussing the issues.
With Hurley injured, does that change your SC choice boys? or is this something for next weeks show, because you’re not going to trade Raines until next week?

I still traded out Raines to Cheney in SC. If hurley wasn’t injured would have traded for him! My other back rookie (Suckling) was injured as well and I need coverage. By trading Raines this week, If Suckling doesn’t make it next week I can always go to another Rookie for him next week if needed. I think there is good money to make in the Back rookies.
