CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #67: Post Round 7, 2009
It’s round se7en so that means we’re gluttons for punishment at the Coaches Box, making the prideful competition envious as we get greedy for some lusty fantasy scores… not to mention wrathful at the sloth of our injured stars!
In the round review we start with Brent Stanton, one of the keepers vying for top 6 fantasy midfielder honours. Swerving past Courtenay Dempsey, who Molly has already traded out, in Hawk Talk the boys go over Cyril Rioli, Luke Hodge and Ben McGlynn. For Geelong everyone is still wondering how long Gary Ablett jnr will be out for, with the least credible on the subject being Gary himself, while Andrew Mackie’s new role after the return of Tom Harley is discussed.
After bemoaning the poor season of Nick Malceski with his twine-wrapped knee, m0nty asks whether Joel Bowden will be replaced by Chris Newman as the Richmond quarterback, as the media is screaming for, with Angus Graham’s excellent round 7 also critiqued. Fantasy coaches were blessed last year with Daniel Palmer’s keeper-worthy performance in 2009 but the question mark still hangs over 2009’s rookie crop, with Daniel Rich and Jack Ziebell two of those still battling to deserve to mentioned in the same breath as fantasy-hall-of-famer Palmer. m0nty bangs on about his boy Ben Ross, while Molly gives his thoughts on those unlucky enough to buy Kane Cornes this week. At the lower end of the scale Jason Davenport might get a decent run with Port’s midfield injuries, while one of the biggest fantasy issues of the week is Nathan Krakouer’s first half. m0nty floats a theory about the Carlton midfield and why Bryce Gibbs is going to be set loose by opposition coaches, then Brendan Fevola is scrutinised for second-half prospects. Molly recommends trading Ryan Houlihan if he doesn’t play this week, and Aaron Sandilands is assessed for #2 ruck eligibility.
In a week mostly bereft of good news stories, one of them was the ton brought up by Taylor Walker, with m0nty also wondering if Andy Otten has a similar big score in his near future in the Nathan Bock-less Crows backline. Adam Cooney turned the game in the third quarter on Sunday, and Molly goes through the full list of Bulldog premiums for trade-in value: Daniel Cross, Robert Murphy, Ryan Griffen, Daniel Giansiracusa, Brad Johnson and Lindsay Gilbee
Molly’s answers on whether to trade Daniel Kerr and Matt Priddis after their injuries are intriguingly different. Adam Cockie gets a chance in the meantime, and similarly with Adam Hunter’s imminent retirement and Ashley Hansen’s inherent spudliness there is a possibility of Josh J. Kennedy and Mitchell Brown being permanently installed at CHF and CHB respectively for 2009 and beyond. Jack Grimes may have appeared at the wrong time for fantasy, although there are a few downgrade players that m0nty throws up for Molly to assess. Steele Sidebottom will be under the microscope this week with one more game until he’s on the bubble, and we finish with another contender for top 6 fantasy midfielder in Lenny Hayes.
Finally, there’s a full captain segment this week, with Geelong’s engine room looking more attractive this week against North than it was against the Swans last week.

m0nty, Iron Maiden made the album The Number of the Beast, a classic. The song ‘Run to the Hills’ would be appropriate with the lyrics “Run to the hills / Run for your liiife!”.

BTW, they’re more Rock ‘n Roll than Death Metal (which has Cookie Monster vocals, they don’t).

haha, alright then, a question: I started with the forward rookie Walker/Ziebell/M.Brown and traded Walker. Of the remaining 2, who do you think is a bench emergency keeper ’til the end of the season? Or should I cash in both? In both DT/SC.
Also, is Petrenko even worth cashing-in (next week) in DT? Only $70k profit if I pick up Broughton.

Thanks John. I think I had the level down too far! I normally do a test recording but didn’t this week.
