CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #69: Post Round 9, 2009
Fantasy footy is going more and more mainstream, but m0nty and Molly are still here delivering you the word from the Dream Team and Super Coach underground each week.
Before the round review, m0nty not only talks about FanFooty (and Vapormedia) appearing in a Sunday Age piece on the weekend, but also plays a little snippet from a certain ABC Local Radio comedy troupe which contains some snide comments about “Slumber Team”…
We start yet again with Gary Ablett jnr in Cat Chat, who showed all of us who traded him just what we’re missing out on. Jimmy Bartel as captain didn’t quite cut it by comparison. Andrew Mackie is another Cat who might suffer a tag this week, while Shaun Higgins is turning into a big fantasy headache.
Nathan Grima is m0nty’s boy, so hands off! Sam Wright isn’t, so feel free to pick him up if you’re brave. Hayden Ballantyne is showing signs of life. Molly gives his verdict on whether Jason Porplyzia and Chris Judd are valid fantasy premiums in their positions. The injury to Jarryd Waite, apart from ruining this week for his owners (m0nty and Molly included!), could mean interesting things for Bret Thornton.
Adam Cockie is back on the rookie list and Heath Shaw is back in defence. Brett Deledio is a popular pick who hasn’t impressed hugely so far, with Patrick Ryder wuite the opposite when not facing two senior ruckmen. Brett Kirk and Jarrad McVeigh are two candidates for mid-season rollercoaster rides. Nathan Krakouer is another thorn in the side of thousands of coaches.
Leigh Montagna has quietly moved into premium fantasy midfielder position, though the same can’t be said for Sam Fisher.
Nick Riewoldt is undoubtedly the most consistent fantasy forward, but is it the wrong time to go straight to the top when there are cheaper keeper options with lower ceilings? Josh Drummond draws the same kind of question, with added injury concerns.
Daniel Bradshaw’s move to CHB was the most interesting of the week, and m0nty has a theory about Daniel Rich’s home and away form which Molly mulls over. In Hawk Talk, the boys sound some stern warnings about Beau Muston, but are we just talking him down so you won’t pick him up? Elsewhere at Hawthorn, Grant Birchall and Brent Guerra are struggling to maintain their premium status with all the structural injuries around them. Finally at Melbourne, Colin Sylvia’s BOG performance is dissected, and Jack Grimes is evaluated for keeper status.
There is also a full captains segment.
