CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #70: Post Round 10, 2009
Fantasy coaches are drowning in honey with huge scores this week, but lurking around the corner is Studly, wielding an armful of donuts…
We start the round review with Chad Cornes, of course, whose 4-6 week injury is an issue for just about everybody. m0nty talks up Paul Bower as another replacement for Jarrad Waite not only for Carlton, but your fantasy team as well.
Tom Swift’s debut wasn’t anything to write home about, but Shaun Higgins proved his doubters wrong, while Daniel Giansiracusa and Ryan O’Keefe also proved how good they were as buy-low keepers. Molly gives his opinion on whether to trade a decent #3 ruck like Jesse White, especially with the prospect of Nick Naitanui coming into the Eagles side soon.
Nathan Grima showed us all yet again why you can never trust the Fantasy Antichrist, Dean Laidley, by being a late withdrawal without even being injured on Saturday. On the field, Jack Ziebell lined up on Daniel Rich in a battle for not only Rising Star honours but fantasy keeper status.
Sam Gilbert cast aspersions on his own keeper credentials with an ankle injury on Saturday night. Jack Watts will debut this week and could play for the rest of the season, which brings up some interesting fantasy scenarios. m0nty likes the look of Brad Green as a low-end midfield keeper, though he had some angry pills on the weekend.
Freo are looking at Clancee Pearce as their next kid off the rank, while at Richmond they may commit even more strongly to youth with a new coach, leaving a questionmark over the rest of 2009 for Joel Bowden, Nathan G. Brown and Troy Simmonds.
In the ongoing search for a midseason “purple patch” candidate, m0nty throws up the name of Michael Doughty, who has taken two big scalps in the last two weeks. Every body loves Beau Muston on the bubble this week, with Xavier Ellis yet another Chad replacement option.
Hayden Skipworth disappointed his long-suffering owners, as did Joel Corey by refusing to break his own foot to get rid of plantar fascitis worries. Corey Enright and Jimmy Bartel are enjoying the points in his absence.
Brad Dick had his best game by far for the Pies in the Sunday twilight game, helped by quieter games by Leon Davis and Alan Didak. Steele Sidebottom and Hamish Hartlett lined up on each other for parts of that game, another two potential rookie keepers. Finally, Nathan Krakouer continued the trend of injured players finding the going tougher after their return.
After the regular captains segment - in short, put a (c) on any Cat you have playing against the Eagles - the boys discuss the fantasy impact of the mooted 2011 AFL fixture, which will be the first in many years to have byes after the introduction of the GC17 team.
