CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #73: Post Round 13, 2009
None of us have any trades up our sleeves, injury lists are filling up faster than a Michael Jackson memorial, Hawthorn’s season is all but shot, the Aussies are struggling in the Ashes buildup… wait, what is the show about again?
We kick off the round review with Kyle Reimers as one of many possible replacements for the injured Daniel Giansiracusa. Molly tries to pick some individual winners out of the soft second-half draw that Carlton will enjoy.
Molly traded Dean Cox for Josh Fraser this week, so m0nty asks him to justify choosing Fraser over the dominant Aaron Sandilands who thrashed Fraser head to head in round 13. The boys also run a slide rule over Matthew Pavlich to see how many weeks it takes before you would trade out a premium like him.
m0nty is still worried about Taylor Walker’s job security as cover for Pav. For the Swans, Barry Hall has very little job security with coach Paul Roos openly questioning his future, which leads to rumination on a post-Barry Swans forward line built around either Ed Barlow or Patrick Veszpremi.
Luke Power is approaching the dreaded big 30, which these days is almost a death knell for fantasy prospects. Cale Morton at the other end of the youth scale, is already being criticised for playing like a scared old man.
The boys grind their way through the issue of whether Nick Naitanui really is a fantasy player, followed by a discussion of where Quinten Lynch is best suited once Naitanui is permanently installed as #2 ruck for the Eagles. Hawk Talk is rather constricted this week.
Joel Selwood is copping tags and not coping very well with them, while Steven Salopek has been sent to the SANFL and Peter Burgoyne might not be far away from joining him.
It was as if Brent Harvey hadn’t left against the Dogs on Sunday, breezing past a Liam Picken tag for another DT ton. For the sons of the west, Robert Murphy also scraped a DT hundred and is very much in calculations to replace Gia not only for the Bulldogs but in thousands of fantasy teams.
Jarryn Geary repaid the faith of those who kept him after two terrible weeks, while Sam Fisher has had two bad weeks himself which have called into question his premium credentials. Brett Deledio is under pressure for midfield TOG, as is the obviously unfit Trent Cotchin, but Robin Nahas has been a revelation as a mature age recruit.
The captains segment this week is dominated by the Dane Swan versus Gary Ablett jnr debate, as well as the outcome of the Cats/Saints game.
Finally, m0nty reveals he’s got a new part-time gig blogging for The Inquisitr - don’t worry, FanFooty isn’t affected!

what is it with fantasy coaches and cloke? agree 100% with you on carrazzo molly, great call. Have to keep an eye on him.
Monty, Hawthorn isn’t the only side in the AFL that has had injuries. Hawks missing 5 from best 22, Port missing 6 from best 22.
Adelaide can’t be top 4, they will run out of bottom 8 sides to play after 2 more, and could easily lose 6 of their last 7 games if not all 7.
Nic Nat, it is still very early but he is very mobile. I think it is far too early to call him not a fantasy player. Cox averaged 40 in his first year. Nic Nat (depending on price) could be one to keep an eye on in the next year or two.
Matt Thomas wasn’t playing (injured) so he didn’t tag ablett. Well spotted Molly, Kornes completely took selwood out of the game and as usual Bartel was quiet against Port (second lowest score for the year).
Salopek hasn’t been the same since he was injured (shoulder). He isn’t getting shafted, just getting form and confidence back. The real question is how is Peter Burgoyne holding his spot? And you answered that very well Monty.

On Cloke. He is a tease! His price makes him so attractive to the Fantasy Coach yet he (and the Collingwood game plan) burn you too often.
Port definitely have injury concerns.
Crows run will be interesting.
Nic Nat: I think you repeated what I said. Not going to be a good Fantasy player early and we will have to wait and see. Kid could be anything!
Thanks for the comments Chad, love the Port updates!
