CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #74: Post Round 14, 2009
While some AFL teams’ hopes for the 2009 flag are in ashes now, it’s the real Ashes that have m0nty ranting to begin this week’s show.
Travis Cloke kicks off the round review, having been recommended my Molly last week and duly saluting with a huge DT ton. Scott Gumbleton’s prospects for 2010 are picked over. Matthew Bate is assessed for a late-season run, and Shannon Hurn is looked at as a 2010 keeper.
m0nty asks if Jason Davenport can keep out the Port kids for the remaining eight weeks, and Molly gives his opinion on whether it’s time to upgrade Daniel Rich as it was at this time last year for Rhys Palmer.
Ben Cousins is a popular nuffie pick, while some nuffies in the media talked up Tyson Edwards’s Brownlow chances for some unknown (and slightly nefarious) reason.
Ryan Hargrave is a sneaky pick for a late-season fantasy back premium, while in Hawk Talk the discussion centres around which Hawks, if any, will be sent off early for surgery as Hawthorn’s flag chances have evaporated.
The retirement of Barry Hall adds further weight to calls for Adam Goodes to stay forward, while Liam Anthony’s turn to be Bubble Boy is about 12 weeks too late for some fantasy coaches’ liking.
Justin Koschitzke and Jimmy Bartel are in hot veins of form and present excellent upgrade targets. Simon Hogan is at the other end of the scale, with Tom Hawkins looking like a pale imitation of Nathan Ablett.
There is a full captains segment and a discussion of how the top four teams will set themselves up for the preliminary finals.

Port shouldn’t fall away because we have a reasonable run home, 5 of the last 8 at AAMI. Hartlett is still 3 weeks away (hammy), and Shaun is coming back in a week or 2 apparently.
Rich is a tough one, I got rid of him a couple of weeks ago, I guess it depends on where your team is at (reliable cover?).
OUT Rich ($311,800) IN Anthony ($86,600)
upgrade, Joel Selwood for 353k or Stanton for 371 looks a bargain. Selwood ‘tough time’ is a bit rough i think. He got knocked about a couple of weeks ago for a 50, and had Kornes on him a few weeks ago which most players don’t like. Put up a 114 last week, and for 350 i would think he is value.
Kornes does take half bank flankers on some occasions (absolutely belts Andrew McLeod). Logan does some forward tags at time, thought you would remember him on the shoulders of Hodge taking a hanger boys
On actual AFL, i kind of enjoy how pathetic st kilda and the bulldogs have been for decades, so would be hoping for geelong to get the flag (after Port of course), but I still think there is more than 4 sides that can win the flag.
Gibson is under rated i think, but All Australian is a little too much.

@Chad - prior to Selwoods 2 recent low scores, his scoring had been reliable and his standard deviation was great. He would be a great pickup for sure.
