CB AFL Dream Team and Super Coach Podcast #79: Post Round 20, 2009
No donut eating on the show this week, but thousands of coaches continue to eat them in fantasy terms in the last month of the season.
The round review kicks off with Sam Mitchell and a rather mopey edition of Hawk Talk which includes much whinging about injuries and the like. For the Crows, Andy Otten is being forgotten about as a Rising Star contender.
Shane Tuck and Scott Pendlebury are examples of midfielders who haven’t quite made that last jump from good real player to great fantasy pick, though Pendles is showing better signs. The possible trade by the Eagles of pick #6 for a small forward to replace Mark LeCras - who is going into the midfield, apparently - starts a big discussion on trade targets.
Brad Scott is the new coach of North Melbourne, replacing Dean Laidley the Fantasy Antichrist, which wil no doubt have fantasy implications. The boys then figure out if anyone on the Brisbane list has upside for 2010 given how they have outperformed expectations this year for their new coach Michael Voss.
Then it’s time to discuss a few half-back rebounders in Jarrod Harbrow, Martin Mattner and Rhyce Shaw, with the last two possibly being joined next year by a tastily underpriced Nick Malceski. Molly tries to work out if Mathew Stokes is part of Geelong’s best 22 in future, and m0nty pushes his boy Dean Brogan as a sneaky #2 ruck pick next year.
Andrew Walker is one of the few legitimate fantasy news stories of the week, along with a changing of the guard at Essendon meaning Michael Hurley and Adam McPhee need to be reassessed and Patrick Ryder might get an old role back. Finally, Nick Dal Santo is scrutinised for 2010 value.
